Mortgages in NZ are structured in a very similar way to those available in the UK as is the criteria for judging how much you can borrow [i.e. multiples of salary].

As a general rule of thumb lending will be on the following basis:

• With a Permanent Residency Visa – up to 95%
• With a Work Visa – up to 90% depending on the length of the Visa.
